    Panaji, Agency. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar died on Sunday. 63-year-old Parrikar, who has been suffering from pancreatic cancer for the past year, breathed last evening. The leaders of various political parties, including President Ramnath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed deep anguish over the demise of Parrikar. The central government has declared a day's national mourning on March 18. His funeral will be done on Monday.

    Manohar Parrikar was born on December 13, 1955, in a middle-class family of Mapusa. His father's name was Gopalakrishna and mother's name was Radhabai. His full name was Manohar Gopalakrishna Prabhu Parrikar. Another brother of Parrikar is also Avadhoot Parrikar. They have two sons. His wife Medha Parrikar has also died from cancer. The Ministry of Defense also condoles the demise of Manohar Parrikar, the former defense minister. Significantly, Parrikar was the defense minister of the country from 2014 to 2017.

    President Ramnath Kovind expressed deep sorrow over the demise of Parrikar. 63-year-old Parrikar was struggling with the pancreatic disease. He breathed his last night at the private residence of Donna Paula. The Chief Minister's office tweeted that the doctors tried hard to save him.

    For one year, 63-year-old Manohar Parrikar, who was suffering from pancreatic cancer, was first ill on February 14, 2018. After this he was admitted to Goa Medical College. The next day he was taken to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai. He has been treated in America for a few days.

    On September 15 last year, he was admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi. After treatment, Parrikar returned to Goa on October 14. On January 29, he participated in Goa's budget session and presented the state budget the following day. Prior to presenting Goa's budget recently, Manohar Parrikar had said that the circumstances are such that it can not present the detailed budget, but I am very excited and fully conscious. On the last day of the session, he was taken to AIIMS in Delhi on 31 January. He returned to Goa on February 5.

    First IIT CM
    Born on December 13, 1955, Parrikar graduated from IIT Bombay in Metallurgical Engineering in 1978. He was the first person to become the Chief Minister of any state in the country after getting a graduation degree from any IIT. Parrikar was first elected from Panaji assembly seat in 1994. After that he continued to win this seat for four consecutive terms.

    Prior to joining politics, Parrikar also had a connection with RSS (RSS). He was active in the North Goa unit of RSS. In the year 2000, he became the Chief Minister of Goa for the first time. His image was in the form of CM of the common man. Often, his photographs from Scotty's CM office were quite popular in the media. However, his first government could only run until February 2002.
