Jobs in Danger: Cowboys in limbo after Trysten Hill pick
Here are 4 things you might not know about Dallas Cowboys DT Trysten Hill.
1. He is a national champion*
Note the asterisk above. The official 2017 college football national champion was the Alabama Crimson Tide. That year the Tide finished 13-1, with their lone loss coming to Auburn in the regular season finale.
UCF on the other hand, the team Hill played for, went 13-0 capping off its year with a bowl win over ... you guessed it ... Auburn. Naturally, UCF dubbed itself the national champion for that season.
And by the looks of it, Hill has some pretty awesome jewelry from that season.
2. He can run the ball!
UCF used Hill as a fullback on multiple occasions during the 2018 season. He helped spring UCF running back Taj McGowan loosed for a 71-yard touchdown run in a comeback win over Memphis.
And if the Cowboys ever need to give running back Ezekiel Elliott a breather, Hill can hold his own as a ballcarrier.
3. Some basics
He attended Suwannee High School in Florida and was at one time a Georgia Tech commit before signing to play with UCF. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school, according to 247Sports, and was listed as the 128th best defensive tackle in the Class of 2016.
The top-rated DT in that class was Rashan Gary, the No. 1 overall player in the entire class, who was drafted 12th overall by the Green Bay Packers.
4. Rough patch becomes learning moment
Hill started every game as a freshman and sophomore in his first two years at UCF when Scott Frost was the team's head coach. The Orlando Sentinel's Chris Hays called Hill the "face of the future for the UCF football program."
When Frost left for the Nebraska head coaching job, however, Hill's playing time at UCF severely dipped. He appeared in 12 games but started just one under new head coach Josh Heupel.
According to Hays, hill "started to gain a reputation, deserving or not, for being lazy and having attitude issues."
Hill even considered transferring, Hays said. But Hill stuck it out, announcing his intentions in epic fashion.
When Hill announced he was declaring for the draft, he sent a statement on Instagram thanking Frost and his teammates ... and Heupel wasn't mentioned.
